Lesson 7 - Direct Objects

Some nouns ending in డు and రు follow a special rule for forming the direct object:

game - విలైయాట్ టు - విలైయాట్టై

year - ఆణ్ డు - ఆణ్డై

calf - కన్ రు - కన్రై

home - వీడు - వీట్టై

cow - మాడు - మాట్టై

river - ఆరు - ఆర్రై

stomach - వయిరు - వయిర్రై

When a noun ends in డు, రు that is not preceded by a dotted (half) consonant

the డు, రు become ట్టు, ర్రు before adding ఐ to form the direct object.

Write the direct object for the following nouns:

forest - కాడు - కాట్టై

rope - కయిరు (coir) - కయిర్రై

cat - పునై

- పునైయై

head - తలై - తలైయై

తమిళ్ నాడు - తమిళ్ నాట్టై

song - పాట్టు - పాట్టై

spoon - కరండు - కరండై

అక్కా - అక్కావై

towel - తుండు - తుండై

goat - ఆడు - ఆట్టై

Translate:

He chases the cat - అవన్ పునైయై తురత్తుగిరాన్ (chase - తురత్తు - verbclass 3)

We (నాం) build that house - అంద వీట్టై నాం కట్టుగిరోమ్ (build - కట్టు - 3)

She holds the spoon - అవళ్ కరండై పిడిక్కిరాళ్ (hold - పిడి - 6, notice the క్కిరాళ్ rather than కిరాళ్)

They cross the river - అవర్గళ్ ఆర్రై కడక్కిరార్గళ్ (cross - కడ - 7)

I touch the cow - నాన్ మాట్టై తొడుక్కిరేన్

You all throw the box - నీంగళ్ పెట్టియై ఎరిగిరీర్గళ్
